Robert Arthur Stradling is professor emeritus of history at Cardiff University, Wales, and a leading authority on the Spanish Civil War. He has published extensively on the topic and made a number of documentaries for Spanish television and BBC Wales.

Typescript of memoirs of James McCarthy, of Enniskeane, county Cork, about his experience as a volunteer with Irish Brigade, entitled Adventures with the Irish Brigade, beginning ‘In July, 1936, the revolt which led to the Spanish Civil War occurred’. Records information concerning the outbreak of war, the International Brigade, General Eoin O’Duffy, the transport of volunteers to Spain, Irish government action, the formation of the Brigade, the daily routine, the first casualties, some ‘Personal Adventures’, General O’Duffy’s address and returning home.
