The company’s distinctive aesthetic drew heavily on Bharatanatyam, a South Indian classical dance form, and was further informed by Vaughan’s studies of ethnic dance in Peru, Equador, Malaysia, Borneo and Thailand and the rhythmical, gestural and spatial nature of these art forms. Shakram Dance company toured nationally and internationally and created thirteen original dance works before dissolving in 2014.
