Letter from Kate O’Brien, 334 Russell Court, Woburn Place, [London] WC1 to Anne O’Mara. She has finished two articles on Leningrad and Moscow for the Evening Press. She has also written a long piece on the houses of Dostoyevsky, Chekhov and Tolstoy, all of which she visited while in Moscow. She had thought that the Sunday Times might take it, but her agent has insisted on sending it first to the Atlantic Monthly. She has been correcting proofs of Presentation Parlour and hopes the publishers will keep the price down. Kate has parted from Mary O’Neill and returned to her old address as they found it impossible to work in the crowded proximity of the Steele’s Road flat. She must find a place of her own as her current lifestyle makes sustained work on the novel [Constancy] impossible.
O'Mara family of Strand House, LimerickLetter from Kate O’Brien, 39 Steele’s Road, [London] NW3 to Anne O’Mara. Kate is pleased to hear that Anne and her family think well of the Radio Éireann version of Without My Cloak. She and Clare have seen Lawrence of Arabia, which she considers a very good film and extremely well made. She has attended a Heinemann cocktail party. Her publishers are pleased with Presentation Parlour and the book is selling well, but Kate still insists that the price is far too high. She has been selling more articles about Russia and has sold a story about the children in Roundstone to the Evening Standard. There has also been renewed interest in film rights to some of her works, but she has been set back so often on such campaigns that she prefers not to think about them too much. She continues her plans to buy a place of her own.

O'Mara family of Strand House, LimerickLetter from Kate O’Brien, Hotel de France, La Turbie, Alpes Maritimes, France to Anne O’Mara. Kate wishes Anne a happy birthday. She apologises for having been out of touch for so long, but she has been on the move and changing addresses constantly. She has now come to rest near Monte Carlo and is busy with the Mary Magdalen project, the novel [The Flower of May] and various odd jobs. She is at present accompanied by Lorna Reynolds, who is trying to arrange finances and visas to visit her friend Darina Silone in Italy. Kate had a great time in Paris, meeting Mary O’Neill who was painting there and two or three other friends. She hopes that Mary, who is now in Avignon, may join her in Monte Carlo, although Mary seems to prefer to go to Holland. She regrets to say that Guthrie McClintic did not come to London in June, which means that she has to go to New York in October. She is planning to stay in her current location until early September, courtesy of Heinemann.
