The first page contains a sketch of a bus travelling through countryside and the images that immediately follow it were taken during a bus tour in the Harz, a highland area in Northern Germany. This is followed by photographs of Hella’s sister and three nieces at home and on holiday; the sergeants’ mess in Hannover featuring Hella’s husband and his German Shepherd; and a monument in the former concentration camp in Bergen Belsen. The last images are taken in England, mostly Oxfordshire, and include views of the village of Horspath, staff at the Wheatley Head, and domestic scenes featuring Hella’s husband, mother and mother-in-law. The final four images are of a journey from Liverpool to Ostende. The images are dated and captioned and many of the individuals named or otherwise identified.
