She regrets the death of Michael Nolan and expresses immense surprise that anyone her age should be gone. She is looking forward to Christmas at Strand House.

Kate has returned home from Strand House safely and is enjoying a rearguard Christmas, having found presents waiting for her from village residents. She describes the beauty of Roundstone and discusses gardening topics.

She accounts an amusing tale concerning a book her sister May attempted to buy for Kate as a birthday present. She also relates a dramatic tale of a chimney fire caused by her burning manuscripts in the fireplace, with the entire village coming to her rescue.

She will be returning to Ireland shortly, after a few days with Lorna Reynolds. She has a great number of recordings to make for Radio Éireann. She has had bad reports of things at The Fort, which makes her anxious. She is looking forward to spending time at Strand House, where she can work in peace. Kate’s time in London has not been restful, but it has been fruitful and she believes that her [financial] decisions have been in the right direction.

The editorial board are very pleased with it, but it is rife with misprints and misspellings.
