Shannon Development90-minute cassette tapes containing conversations extracted from Garda surveillance tapes on 23 October-7 November, mainly between Coyle, Gallagher, Herrema, Chief Superintendent Wren, Gallagher’s brother Patsy, and solicitors Stanley Siev and Seamus Sorahan, recorded during the siege at Monasterevin. The discussions revolve in the main around the delivery of food, clothes and books to the house under siege; toilet arrangements; a demand letter issued by Coyle and Gallagher; a letter of guarantee from the Garda Commissioner that lenience would be exercised in their sentencing; Wren’ own guarantees to speak in favour of the kidnappers; and Herrema’s pleas for his safety. The conversations culminate in Coyle and Gallagher’s surrender on 7 November. The quality of the tapes varies from very good to very poor.
