The first letter contains an account of Kate’s progress with converting her novel [That Lady] into a play, a description of the type of female character she is interested in depicting in her writing, and how the main character Ana in the novel differs from that in the play. She regrets that most readers appear to be more interested in the actions rather than the thoughts and reflections of characters. In the second letter, written in response to Lorna’s of 1 January 1947 (for which see P74/3/1/2/3/1), Kate assures her that she does not seek to be Lorna’s lover on any terms other than those that Lorna desires.
