Two manuscript score books bound into a single small hardback volume labelled ‘Music’ on the front cover and signed by Justin McCarthy, Cappamore on the inside of the front cover. The inside of the back cover contains the names of John McCarthy and Cornelius Collins of Cappamore, county Limerick. The book contains handwritten musical notations of jigs, reels, hornpipes and other traditional tunes in different hands.

Two letters posted in the same envelope from Kate O’Brien, Silver Vale [Hotel, Enniskerry, county Wicklow] to Lorna Reynolds, 21 Herbert Avenue, Dublin. The first letter contains an account of Kate’s progress with converting her novel [That Lady] into a play, a description of the type of female character she is interested in depicting in her writing, and how the main character Ana in the novel differs from that in the play. She regrets that most readers appear to be more interested in the actions rather than the thoughts and reflections of characters. In the second letter, written in response to Lorna’s of 1 January 1947 (for which see P74/3/1/2/3/1), Kate assures her that she does not seek to be Lorna’s lover on any terms other than those that Lorna desires.
