Programme of Kendal Irwin’s concert at the Theatre Royal on 3 January 1896. The reverse of the programme contains a note from Kendal Irwin to Agnes Gaffney, asking her to meet Irwin ‘to arrange about your song’.

Invitation by the Countess of Dunraven to Mr and Miss Gaffney to meet the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland at the Countess Cadogan at Adare Manor.

Vol. XX No. 10 (11 March 1933) of Deutsch-Amerika und Sport Rundschau, an illustrated weekly German-language periodical for Americans. The cover depicts a photograph of the Limerick-born American diplomat Thomas St. John Gaffney (1864-1945) standing next to Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor and King of Prussia. Page 3 of the periodical contains a page-long article dedicated to the friendship between the two men.

Vol. XXI No. 9 (3 March 1934) of Deutsch-Amerika und Sport Rundschau, an illustrated weekly German-language periodical for Americans. The issue contains a two-page article entitled ‘Ein amerikanisches Bild Wilhelms II’ [‘An American Picture of Wilhelm II’] by Thomas St. John Gaffney, with a photograph of the author.

This collection comprises a scrapbook compiled by Agnes Mary Gaffney and a number of loose items found inserted inside it. It provides insights into the life and lifestyle of the members of a prominent and politically influential Roman Catholic family and their role not only in the formation of the Irish republic but on the wider arena of Irish-American republicanism and the campaign for women’s rights.
